THE Rotary Club of Mufulira will continue to supplement Government’s efforts in health, education, youth empowerment and other sectors of the economy, immediate past president Gift Mushinge has said.
Speaking at Lerato Guest House at the induction dinner for incoming president John Sakala, Mr Mushinge said the club’s projects will go a long way to improve people’s lives.
“As a Rotary, we will always remain focused and ensure that we undertake projects which will improve people’s lives. In the past, we have undertaken projects that have helped improve operations of the government institutions like hospitals and schools.
“Some of the projects we have undertaken include the water reticulation at Kamuchanga Hospital where a water tank was erected and a borehole sunk. The club also worked on the water project at Misambo clinic and a school in Mutundu area,” Mr Mushinge said.
Mr Mushinge said he had decided to relinguish his position as president so that he can concentrate on his position as mayor of the Mufulira municipality.
Mr Mushinge said, despite completing his term as club president, his fellow Rotarians wanted him to continue, but he thought it was wise for him not to do so that he could concentrate on the Mayoral position which came with various challenging duties.
He said he was grateful that Mr Sakala had accepted to take over from him and pledged to support him in carrying out various projects that would help improve people’s lives in the community.
And speaking later, Mr Sakala said he was humbled to wear the chain of the Rotary for the second time after having served the club previously.
“I feel greatly humbled by the club to wear this chain of the Rotary Club. The theme of this year is 2017/2018 is Rotary making a difference,
“It is calling upon us to make a difference as individuals and as a club through our Four Way Test of being truthful, fair, building goodwill and benefiting others,” said Mr Sakala
