THE newly commissioned first ever drought resilient Itezhi Tezhi – Dundumwezi road will help assuage the perceived political divisions among Zambians based on ethnicity, Central Province permanent secretary Chanda Kabwe has observed.
Mr Kabwe said that the decision by Government to construct a drought resilient road in Southern and part of Central province was sign that they were committed to ensuring equitable development across Zambia.
He said that the move was a big ‘shame on the doomsayers’, who had been insinuating that Government was only responding to the needs of the people who voted for them.
Mr Kabwe told journalists in an interview that the newly commissioned road would help to mend the political difference between people based on ethnicity.
“This road is a clear testimony that PF is ready to deliver the campaign promises it made to the Zambian people. Government is not looking at which group of people voted for us, and who didn’t. All corners will be development.
“The new road will help to mend the perceived political divisions as it will be a testimony that Government is all inclusive” he said.
Mr Kabwe said that President Edgar Lungu was committed to uplifting the lives of the poor people regardless of the political party they were more inclined to.
He advised opposition leaders to work with the Government of the day to ensure equitable development in all corners of the country.
Meanwhile, Mr Kabwe expressed happiness that Central Province had received its fair share of development.
He pointed out that the first ever boarding school had been constructed in Itezhi Tezhi district, where 8 primary schools had recently been completed.
Mr Kabwe said that a number of other developmental construction projects were taking shape in Central Province.
A check by the Daily Nation discovered that the contractor who had abandoned works on the Mumbwa- Itezhi Tezhi Road was now back on site.
