A WHIRLWIND yesterday tore through several buildings in Nakonde in Muchinga Province, leaving a trail of destruction including homes, business places and other structures, Lukas Simumba has said.
Mr Simumba, the Patriotic Front (PF) Nakonde Member of Parliament has since sent a save our souls (SOS) message to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DMMU) and sympathies pleading for humanitarian support.
“My deepest sympathies go out to every family, individual, and entrepreneur affected by this tragedy. I stand with you in this moment of profound loss, and I want you to know that you are not alone,” Mr Simumba said. He said the destruction was heartbreaking, bemoaning that homes had been reduced to rubble, shops shattered, and dreams uprooted.
“As your representative, I assure you that my office is working tirelessly alongside local authorities, relief agencies, and partners in close coordination with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) Headquarters in Lusaka to mobilize immediate assistance, Mr Simumba said.
“I will personally ensure that the gravity of this situation is urgently reported to the DMMU and other national stakeholders to expedite critical support,” he said.
He said in the days ahead, the community would focus not only on short-term relief but also on rebuilding stronger homes, revitalizing businesses, and restoring hope.
“I am committed to advocating tirelessly for Nakonde at all levels of government, including ongoing briefings with the DMMU, to secure the resources necessary for your full recovery. This is not just a promise…it is a pledge to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you until every family is sheltered, every shop reopened, and every life steadied,” the MP said.
He said to those grieving, struggling, or feeling overwhelmed their resilience inspired him. “Nakonde’s spirit is unbreakable, and I have faith that our collective courage will carry us through,” Mr Simumba said.
