COLOSSAL sums of money have been lost following thousands of litres of diesel leaking to the ground after a fuel tanker heading towards the Copper belt overturned in Manyumbi area of Central province.

A check by the Daily Nation found large quantities of diesel still leaking to the ground with some police keeping guard.
One of the officers explained that the driver of the truck, with a foreign number plate was trying to overtake but lost control and careered off the road.
The police said that the owner of the fuel had been contacted and that he was on the way from Ndola.
“Looking at the extent of the damage here, all this fuel will leak to the ground before the owners reach here. All the tanks are leaking at a faster rate” the police officer said.
A fire engine from Kapiri Mposhi was also found on the scene of the accident with fire fighters geared to handle any disaster .
Meanwhile, Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) head of public relations Fredrick Mubanga said that tanker overtuned after the driver lost control and careered of the road.
Mr Mubanga confirmed that a lot of fuel was spilled in the process but that the two men who were in the truck did not sustain any injuries.
