GOVERNMENT has allocated six solar-powered hammer mills to Mushindamo district as part of the Presidential Empowerment Initiative to local farmers.
The six hammer mills are part of the 128 that have been allocated to the province.
Mushindamo district commissioner Benson Ngambo said the initiative was aimed at reducing the price of mealie meal in the district.
Mr Ngambo said this will be the first time the district will use solar-powered hammer mills in the grinding process.
‘’Yes I can confirm that as a district we have been allocated six solar hammer mills out of the 128 that have been allocated to the province,’’ Mr Ngambo said.
He said the hammer mills will be installed in all the five chiefdoms in the district, adding that once installed, the mills will create jobs for the local people.
He said sites have already been identified where the hammer mills will be installed.
‘’And engineers are already on the ground doing feasibility studies on the installation of the milling plants,’’ he added.
