PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo told Parliament that government should be applying the cyber security act fairly.
Mr Kampyongo said it is unfortunate that the Cyber law was only being applied against the under privileged people and those who are politically active.
He said a number of government officials had been circulating confidential and classified documents, record senior government officials and circulate but they go unpunished.
Mr Kampyongo, who is former Home Affairs Minister said, all Zambians are equal regardless of one’s status, therefore, the law needs to be applied without favour.
He was debating in Parliament on Thursday during the adoption of the report of the Committee on Media, Information and Communication Technologies on the role of the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority in the fight against cybercrimes.
“Law enforcement agencies are only selecting certain portions to enforce the law. It should not be like that because the impunity will continue growing. When some government officials leak classified documents including audios, the police do not move in to arrest the suspects.”
