…we’ll always be pro-poor and never forsake you
By SIMON MUNTEMBA
THE Patriotic Front (PF) government is still pro-poor and will never forsake the street vendors and whatever it is carrying out is in their best interest, says PF Lusaka Province youth chairman Kennedy Kamba.
And Mr Kamba has implored street vendors to be wary of opposition leaders who jump at national calamities to discredit government for cheap political mileage.
In an interview, Mr Kamba told the Daily Nation that the ruling party understood what the vendors were going through but that soon their issue will be sorted out.
Mr Kamba also assured the street traders that the ruling party would never depart from its founding values of pro-poor policies.
“The PF government will never run away from its pro-poor policies which it is anchored on. In this regard, we understand what the street vendors are going through and the issue of finding them a conducive trading place is being looked at with the urgency it deserves.
“They should not be cheated by disgruntled opposition political leaders who jump at every national calamity to discredit government for cheap political mileage that they have been abandoned,” Mr Kamba said.
He insisted that the PF leadership of President Edgar Lungu loves the poor, adding that it will soon sort out the issue of trading places.
Mr Kamba said the PF government would continue being a pro-poor government, building on the political legacy of its founder, Michael Sata.
He said the PF government’s preoccupation was development and ensuring that the lives of the marginalised were protected and uplifted.
“Government removed them from the streets purely to protect their lives because if they were left in the street during this deadly disease (cholera), they could have been wiped out by the epidemic. But very soon their issue will be sorted out, they should just be a little bit patient,” Mr Kamba said.
