THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a Lusaka couple for trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Marvin Fungai Kamambo, aged 31 and his 25-year-old wife Twambo Chonta have been arrested and jointly charged for trafficking in cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
Also seized from the couple is one unregistered Vox wagon vehicle, two flat television sets, two upright double door fridges, one upright single door fridge and one deep freezer.
DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo confirmed the arrests to the Daily Nation in a statement yesterday.
And in a related development, DEC has arrested Cleophas Mateo Nyirenda, 36, of Lukanga Township in Kabwe for trafficking in cocaine, heroin, ephedrine and cannabis.
The suspect was apprehended from Lusaka’s Intercity Bus Terminus.
Meanwhile in other parts of the country DEC has arrested over 30 people for trafficking in cannabis.
Those arrested include Gift Mandevu, 33, a businessman of Muchimata area in Kaoma for trafficking in 18. 9kg of cannabis, Njamba Kalengo, 60, a small-scale farmer of Lisole area in Kaoma for trafficking in 15.6kg of cannabis and Joseph Kunda, 43, a smallscale farmer of Mumba village in Chitambo or trafficking in 14.2kg of cannabis.
Also arrested is Benson Nsofwa, 50, a small-scale farmer of Boyson Mark Village in Chitambo for trafficking in 11.8kg of cannabis and Rodrick Kapala, 45, a charcoal burner of M8 area in Kabompo for trafficking in 8kg of cannabis.
Ms Katongo indicated that all suspects would appear in court soon.
