A FISHERMAN of Kasempa district has died after an explosive blew him into pieces as he tried to use the device to kill fish in nearby Lunga river.
North Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident to the Daily Nation and named the victim as Tebby Kafwebu, 36.
“The incident occurred between 07:00 and 15:00 hours yesterday in Lunga river in Nyakululu area in Chief Ingwe’s chiefdom in the same district,” Mr Daka said.
He explained that the victim died after the explosive went off accidentally and killed him instantly, adding that the matter was reported to police by Allan Muyani, the uncle of the deceased.
He said the deceased’s face was badly mutilated while the right hand was completely cut off and had a deep cut on the chest.
“However, no foul play has been suspected after officers and relatives visited the scene. Besides that, one explosive was found at the scene and a docket has been opened,” he said.
And in a related incidence, a 75-year-old man has been brutally killed by his own son in Kalumbila district.
Mr Daka said the incident happened on Wednesday between 02:00 and 04: hours at Mabenga village in Musanda area in Chief Musele’s chiefdom.
“And the deceased has been identified as Binikosi Mabenga who was killed by his son Jamaica, 42, of the same village, using a hoe,” he said.
He explained that Mr Mabenga sustained multiple head injuries and no arrest has been made.
