THE Lusaka Sanitation Plan project by the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company will bring new water and sewer pipes in Matero’s Kapwepwe ward, says Patriotic Front area councillor Patrick Salubusa.
Mr. Salubusa said the project would empower the water authority to respond to water and sewer challenges in Lusaka.
He said the project soon to commence in Kapwepwe ward would work on the Chunga Sewer Ponds and toured the vicinity with engineers from the contractor company Zhomei.
The civic leader expressed happiness that the project would answer the many challenges of sanitation in the area.
“I am delighted as area councillor that the Lusaka Sanitation Plan project will commence here and it will help the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company answer the challenges of water and sewer works,” he said.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Salubusa, LWSC managing director Sylvester Mashamba said the Government through the authority was implementing the Lusaka Sanitation Program (LSP) with support from the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), German Development Bank and European Development Bank.
Dr. Mashamba said the program was aimed at increasing sustainable sanitation services to Lusaka residents and strengthen LWSC’s capacity to manage sanitation services.
He urged Mr. Salubusa’s office to cooperate with the contractor to ensure they carried their work efficiently and effectively.
“We wish to inform you that LSP with financial assistance from World Bank contracted Zhomei Construction Company to construct a perimeter wall around LWSC Matero Ponds,” he said.
Mr. Salubusa thanked the Government for initiating such a project as it would improve resident’s living standards.
