ABOUT 65 km of roads will be rehabilitated in Mufulira district under the Copperbelt C400 project which is expected to be commissioned by President Edgar Lungu in Chingola this weekend, Mufulira Central Member of Parliament (MP) Evans Chibanda has said.
Mr Chibanda said of the 65 km of roads to be rehabilitated, 25 km would be in Kankoyo constituency, while Kantanshi and Mufulira Central will receive 20 km each.
The Mufulira Central MP said in an interview during the tour of the constituency that the C400 and other road rehabilitation projects would give a facelift to the district.
“As one of the MPs in Mufulira, I think the C400 project would work on some of the major roads in the district and in my constituency, particularly. It will definitely give a new facelift to the roads in the district,” Mr Chibanda said.
And Mr Chibanda has said 100 youths from each of the three constituencies of Mufulira would be employed when the rehabilitation of the Ndola-Mufulira road starts next month
Mr Chibanda said an arrangement had been reached with the contractor Inyatsi Construction Company to initially employ 100 youths from each of the three constituencies in Mufulira.
“As MPs in Mufulira we have made an arrangement with the contractor who will be rehabilitating the Ndola-Mufulira road that 100 youths from each of the three constituencies will be employed.
“This is aimed at empowering our local youths in the district. We can’t have youths from other districts being employed by the contractors working on the Ndola-Mufulira road,” Mr Chibanda said.
Mr Chibanda also said Government would rehabilitate the Remmy Chisupa road which has stalled since 2014 because of lack of funds. He said the rehabilitation of the road was being done by Government contrary to assertions that the road was being done by Olympic Milling.
“The rehabilitation of the Remmy Chisupa road is Government project and people should not be misled that this project is being done by Olympic Milling,” he said.
