THE Zambian government has not been involved in fuel procurement since 2022 and has left the responsibility in the hands of the private sector, particularly the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), Makozo Chikote has clarified.
But Miles Sampa, the Patriotic Front (PF) Matero Member of Parliament has questioned the failure by government to reduce the country’s fuel debt, which he says has grown from US$597 million in 2021 to US$735 million by the end of 2024.
“At the time of assuming Government, the New Dawn found a debt of $478 million in unpaid supply of fuel to various vendors,” he said.
