THE monthly review of fuel still remains a challenge for local businesses, says the Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD).

CTPD Executive Director Isaac Mwaipopo said it is prudent that the Energy Regulations Board considers reverting back to quarterly review as it is the only way which will allow the local businesses to survive.
Mr. Mwaipopo said in an interview that if the situation continues, a number of businesses will collapse.
He however said the monthly reviews will be viable if the government finds modalities of stabilising the Kwacha.
He said stability in the foreign exchange market will ultimately trigger stability of the fuel pump price.
“We depend on the imports and if the Kwacha continues to fluctuate then we shall continue purchasing the fuel at high prices.
We need to ensure that the Kwacha is stabilized then we shall see the importation of fuel to be much less,” Mr Mwaipopo said.
