And EIZ Registrar David Kamungu says the MoU would see the two institutions working together towards ensuring that engineering skills coming into the country were the required expertise.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka yesterday, Engineer Kamungu said through the partnership, EIZ would be availed with information on the number of foreign engineering professionals, units and organisations coming to work in Zambia.
He said the EIZ would have a record of engineering professionals coming into the country and what kind of skills they were coming to offer.
And Immigration Department Director General Japhet Lishomwa said a significant number of applications for employment permits, which the department was considering fell under the engineering profession as prospective employers submit them to fill the skills gap in the local labour market for many projects.
Dr Lishomwa said local and foreign engineers played a crucial role in the country’s social economic development agenda by improving infrastructure and contributing to job creation.
He said in this regard, the two institutions were indispensable to each other hence the MoU would strengthen their efforts in guiding foreign engineering professionals in the country.
