Provincial Water Development and Sanitation Engineer, Moses Kapala says government will spend K940, 000 on the boreholes.
Mr Kapala announced the development when he visited Kabombo village in Lupososhi with provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary, Lewis Mwape.
He said Lupososhi alone will see four boreholes rehabilitated.
“These rehabilitation works are been done in five districts in the province and the government through the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation has provided resources for the ongoing rehabilitation and Lupososhi alone has four rehabilitation works,” said Mr Kapala.
Mr Kapala explained that priority has been given to communities that have no access to clean and safe water for a long time.
“The yield of the boreholes is very good, hence we plan on upgrading them in the 2024 workplace to a mechanised water scheme,” he said.
He said so far, the rehabilitation works stand at 88 percent.
Mr Mwape, who inspected the boreholes in Lupososhi said the provision of the boreholes by government will help in providing clean water.
He said this will help to protect people in rural areas that fetch water in unsafe rivers that are infested by crocodiles.
“We are happy to see that the people in areas such as Kabompo are accessing clean and safe water and it is working well and my appeal to the people is to take care of these facilities,” said Mr Mwape.
He added that it is Government’s aspiration to bridge the inequality that exists between rural and urban areas by providing equal services to all.
“Vulnerable communities and villages are a target for government to provide piped water, so very soon these boreholes will be upgraded so that people in these areas can also have access to tap water,” he said
Mr Mwape also said he is impressed with the works especially that all chiefs’ palaces and the community are being supplied with tap water.
“It is the duty of government to ensure that all people have clean drinking water and this also will improve sanitation in the community,” he said.
And Chiefteness Chungu of Lupososhi thanked the government for the boreholes and and that it should consider putting up more water facilities in her chiefdom.
