THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit has called for proactive interventions aimed at promoting and restoring stability in the region.

Speaking when he officially opened the SADC Troika summit in Angola, President Hakainde Hichilema who is also the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics Defense and Security says the deteriorating human rights situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is worrying to all member countries.
ZANIS reports that President Hichilema stated that conflict in a particular country is conflict everywhere as member countries remain as one. “This summit underscores the value and commitment SADC member countries place to matters of peace, security and stability in our region. If peace is absent, development in our region will suffer,” he said.
President Hichilema in his address said the insurgency of armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has brought more problems in that country.
“Our meeting today, therefore, focuses on actions and solutions as opposed to mere discussions as we need to quickly arrest the escalation of the unrest in the Eastern DRC, “ President Hichilema said.
The Head of State emphasized the need to push holistic decisions to address the armed conflict in the DRC. President Hichilema observed that if left unchecked, instability in the region will also affect the holding of peaceful elections in the region.
And speaking earlier, SADC Executive Secretary, Elias Magosi called for collective resolve to help the DRC to find a lasting solution to ending the unrest.
“As SADC, we shall do all that is possible to help our sister country to come out of its current situation.
Tanzanian President Samia Hassan who is the Incoming Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation and Namibian Vice President Nangolo Mbumba were also in attendance.
President Hichilema who is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Stanley Kakubo and Minister of Defense Ambrose Lufuma, is expected to return to Zambia immediately after his engagements.
