Willam Banda, the UPND chairman for special duties, has threatened to crush the Patriotic Front in the Kabwata by-election if they so much as make a sound.Mr Banda issued the warning in a video which has gone viral on social media.
The man famously known for engineering and participating in political violence from the UNIP and MMD days, has threatened to deal with the Patriotic Front in a heavy duty’ way in the Kabwata by-election campaign.
And the Patriotic Front has appealed to police to cage Mr Banda, whom they describe as a danger to national unity and security as he thrives on violence.
PF National Chairperson Davis Chama has said Mr Banda should be tamed because he is a danger to national security and if left unchecked would wreak havoc and set the country on fire.
Mr Chama said that Mr Banda would never change as he was exhibiting the same thuggish behaviour as he did in the MMD regime. He said Mr Banda was trying to intimidate the PF not to campaign freely ahead of the 2022 By Election which he said the PF was poised to scope.
Mr Chama wondered why Mr Banda wanted to usurp the powers of the Police by inciting citizen arrests when the law enforcements agencies were still intact. “The UPND are now in power and if they feel aggrieved its better they report the matter to police rather than inciting violence on innocent people who want to conduct their campaigns peacefully,”he said.
He said that Mr Banda was working against the President who made pronouncements that were contrary to what he was saying.
Mr Chama said that this type of behaviour was what de-campaigned the MMD and that if he was not careful would do the same for the UPND.‘At the pace at which he is moving, he will again be running to the borders even before 2026 because he is making serious blunders,”he said.
And Mr Banda said he was going to effect a citizen arrest on all known PF criminals and members who are planning to cause havoc ahead of the January 20 By-Elections.
Mr Banda the former special assistant to the President for politics when he was in opposition said he was sending a big warning to all those individuals that caused mayhem when the PF was in power but that he would fix’ them this time around.
He said the UPND was aware of the PF transgressions and that they would deal them because they knew all the bad things they had done.
Mr Banda urged the UPND stewards to clump the individuals that had fled the country and wanted to come back to campaign ahead of the Kabwata polls.
“My brothers and sisters , let us effect citizen’s arrest. I know you have been told to come back to campaign but I want to tell you that we have not forgotten what you did and we are ready for you,” Mr Banda said. He said that he had intelligence information that there was a group of PF that were trying to cause confusion in Kabwata but that they would be met head on.
