UN food aid arrives in Tigray but more needed
ADDIS ABABA – The UN World Food Programme said 175 lorries carrying supplies had made it into Tigray.
Its executive director, David Beasley, tweeted that while this was “great progress” more than 100 lorries were needed every day for the population who were in dire need. β BBC.
Nigeria seizes pangolin scales in $54m record haul
ABUJA – Nigerian authorities have arrested three people after seizing a huge quantity of wild animal parts including pangolin scales and elephant tusks bound for south-east Asia.
The head of Nigeria’s customs department said the record illegal haul, worth more than $54m was made in the Lekki area of Lagos. They found 18 tonnes of pangolin scales in addition to nearly a tonne of elephant tusks. β BBC.
