President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has urged farmers in the country to embrace castor bean production.
Speaking when he toured the Zambia Castor Industry Multi- Purpose Cooperative Society Operations in Serenje District, of Central Province, the Head of State called for a lot of training on castor bean production among farmers.
He has since urged the farmers to avoid implementing short cuts in growing the crop.
“We want you to grow crops and learn how to market them,” he stated.
President Lungu has also urged all farmers participating in castor production of full government’s support.
The Head of Stated further observed the need for the creation of a task force to promote castor production in the country
He emphasized that partnership is key in crop diversification because it enhances the Agricultural sector.
The Head of State noted that castor bean benefits are far reaching and it is important for the farmers to invest in the crop.
He added that growing of castor bean is in line with the Patriotic Front government policy of crop diversification.
President Lungu has further called on the ministry of Agriculture to emphasize the importance and value of cultivating the crop.
