KANYAMA ruling Patriotic Front parliamentary hopeful Chris Changwereza has continued to receive support from the church community ahead of this year’s August 12 General Elections.
Pastor Rabson Daka of the Bible Gospel of Central Africa said in Kanyama yesterday that scores of pastors have come together to endorse the candidature of Mr Changwereza because of his approach of working with both the party and the church.
Pastor Daka said the pastors and local womens’ groups have taken it upon themselves to support Mr Changwereza and called on the people of Kanyama to work with him in a bid to foster development in the area.
And Bishop Christopher Chilila of the United Glory of God Pentecostal Church echoed the same sentiments, saying the church was tired of unfulfilled promises and wanted someone they could hold accountable. In his continued interactions with the church, Mr Changwereza yesterday visited four different churches in the Constituency, among them United Glory of God Pentecost Church of Mutanda Bantu area as well as Makeni Catholic Church of Christ the Redeemer.
And the clergy in Kanyama have embraced Mr Changwereza’s approach of working with the church in an effort to change the face of the underdeveloped Constituency.
In his address to the church, Mr Changwereza stated that the reason Kanyama had lagged behind in terms of development was due to the lack of an effective voice to represent the people because government has provided all that was need to develop the area.
He said in order for Kanyama to change, it needed to have an MP who should represent the needs of the people.
“The PF Government under the able Leadership of President Edgar Lungu has introduced a number of empowerment initiatives in various Ministries but you have not been able to access them due to lack of an effective voice in parliament.
Mr Changwereza stressed that the church was a key player in ensuring that the status quo in Kanyama changed.
“Alone I cannot manage to make Kanyama great but when we work together we can achieve a lot and that is why I am here today engaging with the church because I believe the church plays an important in my development agenda of our Constituency,” he said.
