HOME Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has pledged to support good initiatives aimed at improving the health of Sikanze Police Hospital Staff and their families.
Mr Kampyongo said he was aware of the many challenges Sikanze Police Hospital staff and their families were facing.
“I will ensure support for the good initiatives meant to better the health of the Sikanze Police Hospital security personnel and their families,” he said.
Mr Kampyongo said Sikanze Police Hospital was providing health services in line with Government policy of taking health services as close to the people.
Speaking when he donated a television set, water dispenser and an undisclosed amount of money to mothers and patients as Christmas gifts at Sikanze Police Hospital maternity wing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Kampyongo said the health facility required additional resources.
Mr Kampyongo said Government would continue supplementing Sikanze Hospital with drugs, qualified medical personnel, among others.
He said he would ensure that all police hospitals had adequate facilities and provided quality health care to the officers.
He said last year, his counterpart Minster of Health Chitalu Chilufya agreed to collaborate in making sure that service delivery at Sikanze Hospital improved because the hospital also catered for surrounding communities. The minister was happy that the hospital had medical personnel specifically dealing with HIV/AIDS issues, but was concerned that people leaving with virus had continued to be stigmatized by some members of the public.
And Sikanze Hospital deputy commissioner of Police director medical, Dr George Phiri said the hospital had recorded 590 admissions this year, 550 deliveries, while 40 were referred to University Teaching Hospital and one maternal death was recorded.
Dr Phiri said the hospital received two medical doctors from the Ministry of Health, a pharmacist and nurse, which had increased the efficiency and effective service delivery at the hospital.
