KALUMBILA district has received ten solar powered hammer mills out of the 228 that have been allocated to the province.
The solar powered mills programme is a presidential initiative aimed at reducing the price of mealie-meal in the country.
Kalumbila district commissioner Robinson Kalota confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in an interview.
“I want to report to the people of Kalumbila district that we have received ten solar powered hammer mills in terms of allocation, and this a program under the presidential initiative,” Kalota said. He said siting has already been done, adding that the contractor is already moved on site and works were progressing well.
“And for us, as a district, we are very happy because this was not just mere campaign promise by His Excellence the President of the Republic of Zambia. This is reality, and it is one fulfilment by government,” he added.
He said the move was a clear indication of President Lungu’s willingness and commitment of taking development to every part of the country without discrimination. He appealed to the people in the district to work with the government of the day.
He further appealed to people in the district not to concentrate on mining but also venture into agriculture. “As you may be aware that Government wants to diversify the economy from dependence on mining to agriculture, so people should seriously consider venturing into agriculture,” he said.
