Private universities and colleges which are illegally advertising health-related training programmes have been banned.
An announcement by the Health Professions Council of Zambia yesterday banned such universities from enrolling students for the banned programmes because they do not comply with section 32 (1) and (2) of the Health Professions Act No.24 of 2009 of the laws of Zambia. Altogether eight institutions some of them offering degrees and diplomas in clinical medicine, public health, environment and pharmacy have been banned because they do not comply with the requirement and were therefore not recognised and approved by the Council.
Parents, sponsors and would-be students have been warned against sending their children for training because graduates from such institutions would not be recognised by the Council
The Council has also warned that the advertising and enrolment for these programmes was not only illegal but had no approval from the Council.
Meanwhile, in order to avoid the inconvenience of losing money and time the Council is taking necessary measures.
Among the institutions banned include: Rhodesburg University College in Lusaka, MEF University in Lusaka, Choma Medical College in Choma, Eden University in Lusaka, Mansfield University College in Lusaka, Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation University in Kitwe, Rusalu College of Education & Health Sciences in Kafue and South Valley University in Lusaka.
