IT IS sad that Geoffrey Mwamba has betrayed his master just like Peter did to Jesus by fleeing the country when Hakainde Hichilema needs him more than ever before but his excitement could be short-lived if it is established that he committed any offence because he could still be extradited, Edward Mumbi has charged.
Mr. Mumbi, who was Mr. Hichilema’s spokesperson, said he would not have chickened down if he was still with the UPND like Mr. Mwamba as he would have continued speaking for Mr. Hichilema because the UPND leader desperately needed gallant people to stand by him.
He said it was surprising that Mr. Mwamba had decided to leave the country and continue issuing reckless statements from wherever he was holed up that Zambia was in turmoil without realising that the party needed him more back home now that its leader was in incarceration.
He said Mr. Mwamba’s absence could be a confirmation that he may have committed crimes that would get him arrested but that his decision could still boomerang because
no sovereign state could be prevented from getting its national who had committed a crime and seeking asylum in another country.
“If I was still Mr. Hichilema’s spokesperson, I would have stood by him because I am not a coward. Mr. Hichilema needs those closer to him more than ever before but just like Peter who betrayed Jesus, Mr. Mwamba, who is supposed to be UPND’s next of keen, has fled and is now issuing statements about Zambia being in turmoil.
“This could be confirmation that he committed a crime and that is why he has fled. However, this does not mean that he is immuned to prosecution if it is established that he committed any crime because Zambia, just like any other sovereign nation, has the power to demand for the extradition of any of its citizens who has committed an offence,” Mr. Mumbi said.
