AN unidentified man has died after a flag pole fell on him as he assisted Kabwe Central Police hoist the Zambian flag.
Central Province commissioner of police Lombe Kamukoshi confirmed the accident yesterday.
Ms Kamukoshi that the deceased was called to assist the officers at Kabwe Central Police Station hoist the national flag around 0845hours when the incident happened.
Ms Kamukoshi explained that the man who had not yet been identified offered to help the officers but in the process the pole snapped and hit him. He died on the spot. “An unfortunate event took Kabwe Central Police by surprise when a flag pole accidentally snapped and fell on an unidentified man who died on the spot as he tried to assist officers hoist the flag.
“The man’s identity remains unknown as we await positive identification by his family or next of kin, but his body has been deposited at Kabwe General Hospital mortuary,” Ms Kamukoshi said.
She has since called on members of the public in Kabwe to come forward and identify the deceased.
