MANYINGA district commissioner Queen Manela says Government is aware of the critical role communication plays in the dissemination of agriculture information and products, especially in rural areas.
Ms Manela said it was for this reason that the Patriotic Front (PF) gov-ernment through the Zambia Information and Communication Tech-nology Authority (ZICTA) had embarked on the installation of com-munication towers in the district.
“This is the first phase of the project, and the areas that are going to have the towers installed in include Kachikenge and Luansongwa,’’ she said.
The district Commissioner said this when she officiated at the 6th District Agriculture and Commercial Show held at Manyinga Youth Resource Centre ground. She stated that once the project was completed, information dissemina-tion will significantly improve in the district. And Ms Manela has implored cattle farmers in the district to have their animals vaccinated as it was the only remedy against disease.
Speaking at the same event, Manyinga District Show Society chairper-son Robert Kapende commended Government for increasing the pro-vision of white maize under the Farmer Input Support Programme from 3,953 packs in the 2015/2016 farming season to 5,932 packs dur-ing the 2016/2017 season.
Mr Kapende, however, bemoaned the bad state of feeder roads in the district and called on relevant authorities to look into the problem.
