Dear Editor, IT is more than true today that a good number of Zambians have resorted to eating fritters (Vitumbuwa) because they cannot afford expensive mealie-meal for their daily nshima. I have noticed too that the majority of our office workers depend on fritters for their breakfast and lunch. You will agree with me that Vitumbuwa is a common sight almost everywhere these days in our towns and cities. Nearly all bus stops have been invaded by women making fritters who I must admit are in brisk business. The prices of fritters now range from anywhere between K2-K6 each and people are rushing for this not particularly healthy food because they have no choice. Life in Zambia has indeed continued to get worse for ordinary Zambians and shockingly our UPND government cannot be bothered.
