By SILUMESI MALUMO and SIMON MUNTEMBAPRESIDENT Edgar Lungu yesterday led hun- dreds of Zambians tolay wreaths at the Freedom Statue in Lusaka in commem- orating the country’s 56th in- dependence anniversary.This year’s independence was commemorated under the theme “Zambia at 56: One Land One Nation, Building Our Future Proud and Free.The President was the first to lay a wreath at the statue and later Defence Chiefs and diplomats followed in laying their respective wreaths in remembrance of the depart- ed heroes and heroines who fought for Zambia’s indepen- dence.President Lungu, who arrived at the Freedom Statue around 09:10 hours was given a gun salute mounted by the Zambia Army.This year’s independence was commemorated in differ- ent way under the new normal due to the outbreak of Covid-19.The celebration was strictly by invitation to safeguard people from contracting the Covid-19.And Colonel Dr Macron Nyambe in his message to the Zambian people, called for unity of purpose […]
