By MERVIS MUSONDATHE Bankers Association of Zambia (BAZ) says K1.4 billion was given to businesses through loans of which 21 percent was directed towards women-led enterprises.BAZ Chief Executive Officer Leonard Mwanza, says banks have taken keen interest in providing financial support to women-led businesses.Mr Mwanza said in 2021 it was realised that women had challenges to access finances which prompted banks to prioritise them to grow their businesses. He said women especially in rural areas had been the most affected in accessing the finances which need to be curtailed.He said, there are various interventions being put in place to improving women-led businesses.Mr Mwanza said it was important to ensure that there is closer alignment between the needs of women businesses and how the industry responds to them.He said this would enable the women to be encouraged to engage in various businesses in the economy.
