BY IRVIN MUYUMBWATHE Zambia Association of Manufacturers ZAM has called for the rationalization of permits and licenses that manufacturers require in order to ease and sustain their operations as a medium term measure. ZAM Chief Executive Officer Florence Muleya says the manufacturing sector currently has over 30 regulatory permits required which makes it difficult for business to thrive. Ms. Muleya says with the rationalization of the regulatory permits and licenses, it will help SME’s to invest in the manufacturing sector because conditions of doing business would be eased. And Ms. Muleya says there is need for the government to ensure stability of the Kwacha, without which cost of production will remain high and manufacturers will be unable to plan. She also says there is need for more investment in value addition especially in the established Multi-Facility Economic Zones.
