By SIMON MUNTEMBAABOUT 4, 000 students in public universities have so far benefited from the Government loan schemes after abolishing meal allowances, Ministry of Higher Education Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame has said.Ms Siame said the resources saved from the scrapping off of student meal allowances in public universities had started yielding positive results as evidenced by an increased number of students in public universities offered loan schemes.In 2018, Government abolished meal allowances for students in all public universities to scale up resources for the loan scheme for public universities, starting with first year students for the 2018/2019 academic year.SUBSCRIBE TO READ FULL STORY[maxbutton id=”1″]
