By STEPHEN MWEWATHE Kasama Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a-27-year-old peasant farmer to three years imprisonment with hard labour, after pleading guilty of trafficking in marijuana.James Bwalya of Bwebe village in Kasama was found with marijuana weighing 7.5 grams on March 10, this year.On the material day around 22:00 hours, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers raided Bwalya’s house and found 7.5 grams of marijuana.He was subsequently arrested.In mitigation, Bwalya pleaded for court’s leniency saying he was a responsible person who looks after his aged mother and a wife with two children who may suffer, if he was sent to a correctional facility.In response, Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba said he had taken into consideration the convict’s mitigation and convicted him accordingly.He sent him to Milima Correctional Facility where he will spend three years.Meanwhile, Mr Mumba also sentenced Luckson Mumba 30, of Amini village in Kasama to two years imprisonment with had labour for trafficking in 5.0 […]
