According to statistics, the province last year recorded 94 deaths of women while in child birth. Copperbelt Province Clinical Care Specialist, Dr. Abidan Chansa, confirmed the development to the Daily Nation. Dr. Chansa said the Copperbelt provincial epidemics committee had resolved that post-mortem should be conducted on victims who died while in labour. He stated that the committee resolved on post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death to reverse the trend. Meanwhile, Dr. Chansa said the province had recorded an increase in the number of dysentery and non-bloody diarrhoea which was a source of concern. He attributed the increase to poor sanitary conditions in some compounds.
