Howard Simumba, 25, of Matero compound was testifying in a case in which his wife, Theresa Phiri, 22, of George compound sued him for divorce. The two got married in 2015 and have one child. Phiri told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Magistrate Miyanda Banda at Matero Local Court that she never enjoyed her marriage because when she was seven months pregnant Simumba took her to her parents and did not come to get her and life became hard for her.
