Police officers found at the scene of the accident said that the driver of the tanker escaped unhurt and that he had been taken to the nearest police station to give a report. A check by the Daily Nation found large quantities of diesel still leaking to the ground with some police keeping guard. One of the officers explained that the driver of the truck, with a foreign number plate was trying to overtake but lost control and careered off the road.
