Sat, 03 Dec 2016 10:37:41 +0000 GOVERNMENT will not neglect or abandon any household that will be affected by the construction of the Kafulafuta dam project, Mpongwe district commissioner Keith Maila has said. Speaking when he addressed settlers of Gondwe village in Mpongwe district, Mr Maila urged them to allow Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company to conduct an environmental impact assessment (EIAs) concerning the US$450 million project. This follows reports of project consultants facing resistance from the local people which has led to the delay in the preparation of the EIA report. Mr Maila appealed to the settlers in the area to remain calm and allow all preliminary procedures concerning the project to be concluded. Once completed, the multi-million US dollar Kafulafuta dam is expected to improve water reticulation in Luanshya, Ndola, Masaiti, Mpongwe and other surrounding areas.
