The report, released yesterday, claims that under President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration, the government has allowed illegal mining of lead and zinc, further exacerbating the risks to the health of local communities, particularly children. The former lead and zinc mine in Kabwe, which closed in 1994, left behind an estimated 6.4 million tons of toxic waste.
