THE assurance by the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) to residents of Kitwe and Kalulushi that the water they are receiving is safe to drink is certainly reassuring, especially following the alarming pollution of the Kafue River, which had led to a temporary water supply shutdown. This proactive step, combined with the ongoing monitoring efforts by NWASCO, the Zambia Environmental Management Agency, the Water Resources Management Authority, and local authorities, demonstrates a serious commitment to maintaining water quality and ensuring public health in these communities. Residents can take some comfort knowing that the authorities are not only investigating the cause of contamination but are also putting measures in place to prevent future occurrences.
