By BARNABAS ZULU UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta, has confidently declared that the ruling party will win the Petauke Central seat in the upcoming by-election, citing the positive impact of the policies introduced by President Hakainde Hichilema. The Petauke seat became vacant following the disappearance of former MP Emmanuel Jay Banda. The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has scheduled the by-election for February. However, Mr Mwaliteta believes the UPND is in a strong position to retain the seat. Speaking about the by-election, Mr Mwaliteta said, “I don’t know what President Kalaba was trying to say there because this is the same ECZ that oversaw everything. They have never plunged this country into war. Even when we were in opposition, we feared that ECZ might cause chaos, but it was the same ECZ that conducted the 2021 elections. To accuse them of helping the UPND is not true. Harry Kalaba, President of CF, is offside.” […]
