By BARNABAS ZULU MINISTER of Health, Dr. Elijah Muchima, says Zambia needs to break cultural barriers in order to promote sexual and reproductive health for men. Speaking during the World Vasectomy Day Conference held yesterday to celebrate men’s health, Dr. Muchima acknowledged the challenges of shifting ingrained cultural beliefs. He emphasized that convincing people to embrace new health practices often faces resistance due to deep-rooted traditions. “Zambia still believes in cultural practices that can hinder progress in sexual and reproductive health. Breaking these cultural systems requires a rigorous campaign,” Dr. Muchima said. “When HIV arrived in Zambia, it was extremely difficult for many to accept that the disease was real. The stigma associated with it was overwhelming.
