SURVEYING THE SOCIAL-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF CARING FOR THE AGED IN ZAMBIA

(c) Kate Holt/HelpAge International 2009 ***Names and details have been changed to protect identities*** Summary: 80 year old grandmother caring for seven grandchildren receiving legal help from URAA in a land dispute. Biira Brakeri at her temporary home in Uganda on the 30th July, 2009. "I am 80 years old and was thrown off my family's land five years ago after my second husband who was brother to my first husband died. His first wife and their children didn’t want me there anymore. I have seven children and orphans who live with me, the youngest is about two. We are still battling with the case to try and get me a little land to live on with the help of Agnes. I am very appreciative of this help because without it I wouldn’t know what to do because I don’t understand these things. All I want is a little bit of land that I can cultivate so I can feed these children."
