Think tank calls for proper use of toll fees

By SHERRY CHABALATHERE is need for prudent utilisation of toll fees for Zambians to appreciate the essence of toll gates in the country, Centre for Trade Policy and Development has said.Executive Director Isaac Mwaipopo said toll fees are supposed to be used for maintenance and construction of new roads so that road users see the work of their money.Mr Mwaipopo said Government needs to ensure that toll fees channeled into the control 99 account should be isolated so that finances are used transparently for improvement of roads. He stated that toll fees need to be in an isolated account for accountability purposes. Mr Mwaipopo said transparency is required in the use of toll fees if the country is to attain economic growth.Mr Mwaipopo said Zambians have not seen the benefit of having toll gates.
