By KETRA KALUNGAMORE stakeholders have joined calls to legalise Kachasu which has been brewed since before independence as empowerment for people whose livelihood depend on producing the unregulated and unlicensed alcohol.New Congress Party President, Peter Chanda said the government should consider legalising Kachasu production because the initiative if properly implemented could be a huge source of income for communities and the nation as a whole.Pastor Chanda said in an interview that countries like China have developed not because of the large industries but through such initiatives which begin at a community level.“The government should take such initiatives seriously and come up with a legalised and regulated Kachasu industry which could be a huge source of income at household and national level,” Pastor Chanda said.And development activist, Dr Canisius Banda urged the government to register all Kachasu brewers in form of cooperatives and ensure that they undergo capacity building training.Dr. Banda said the Kachasu cooperatives should […]
