By KALOBWE BWALYAMining activities in the Lower Zambezi will cause serious erosion, sinkholes and loss of biodiversity, the Zambia National Students Unions (ZANASU) has warned.ZANASU) president, Steven Kanyakula, has said contamination of soil, ground water and surface water by the chemicals emitted from mining processes will also have serious negative impact.Mr Kanyakula said the processes also have an impact on the atmosphere from the emissions of carbon which has effect on the quality of human and animal health and biodiversity.The students have since appealed to various mining companies to desist from masquerading as investors yet they are in the country to wipe out the animal population indirectly as their concern is only making profits.The students have further questioned government why would allow investors to destroy the biodiversity without respecting the rights of ordinary Zambians.Mr Kanyakula said that tourism not only contributes towards increased economic activities, but also generates more employment, revenues and plays a significant […]
