ZANASU hails book allowance increaseBy SENIYA BANDAZAMBIA National Students Union (ZANASU) has backed the decision by Government to increase the book allowance for students at the University of Zambia and the Copperbelt University from K500 to about K1, 000.Government through the Higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board increased student book allowance from K500 to K1, 066 for students at the two universities.And ZANASU President Stephen Kanyakula said the increase was timely considering the current economic hardships being experienced by citizens.Mr Kanyakula explained that this would cushion the students especially the vulnerable.And Mr Kanyakula called on the government to consider increasing the meal allowances from K22 daily to K80 once reinstated.He said it should consider the economic factors when coming up with the meal allowance.
