The increase in fuel pump price will make the vulnerable people miserable because fuel is an economical decider, a governance expert in Solwezi , John Kalusa, has said.
Mr Kalusa states that once fuel goes up, the standard of living equally goes up.
He said transport fares have already been increased which he said is a clear indication of how miserable vulnerable people are likely to become.
“And going forward literally the price of almost everything will be increased which will bring misery to the majority Zambians, ” said Mr Kalusa.
He said the promises that were made during the August 12 polls have come to prove that politics are politics and reality is reality.
He said the new dawn government is on record promising to reduce the price of fuel which it has failed to fulfill.
He said the main reason why there is the increase are the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“And since the government has decided to go to bed with the IMF, more days for the poor to suffer are coming. This is just an iceberg,” he said.
On the two year period government has announced that the economy will stabilise, Mr Kalusa said “that’s a gamble. It’s a gamble because it will depend on economic factors such as production.”
He said Zambia imports almost everything, a situation which he said, cannot bring the price of goods down.
“We are a country that is not a producer, we are a country that is 90 percent dependent on copper, so unless we change the status core, otherwise it’s a gamble, ” he said.
