Chongwe acting district chairman, Charles Mumena has ditched the Patriotic Front (PF), saying that he needed time to reflect on his political career following what he termed as the party’s failure to effectively engage the electorate in the August 12 general elections.
Mr. Mumena announced his resignation during a press briefing in Chongwe yesterday. He told the media that he was resigning from the PF in order to reflect on his next political move.
He described his resignation as part of the rebranding process, stating that rebranding would mean some leaving the party to allow people with fresh ideas to move the party forward.
Mr. Mumena who has served as councilor under MMD and PF for 25 years said that he was not resigning to join another political party. He however did not rule out the possibility of him joining another political party soon.
“I have not joined another party, but I may join any political party that would resonate with my political ideology. It is also possible for me to rejoin the PF, my resignation is for now and not eternal,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PF members in Chongwe have expressed mixed feelings about the development.
Chongwe constituency PF youth chairman, Timothy Sinkonde has described the development as a welcome move. He charged that the party lost the elections because of selfish leaders who did not want to listen to the grassroots.
