By ADRIAN MWANZAZESCO is set to create 600 megawatts solar plants in Chibombo, Chirundu and Siavonga in a bid to ensure that the country becomes an electricity hub in the region.Zesco Limited managing director Victor Mundende said the firm, which is 99.9 percent depended on hydro generation was diversifying and concentrating on solar generation.Mr Mundende said this when he officiated at the annual energy week whose theme was sustainable Energy – a key driver to economic development in Zambia.He said that Zesco had already created the 54 Megawatt Ngonye and Bangweulu Solar power plants which had been connected to the grid.He said that Zesco had continued to make strides and that the company’s customer base had increased from 660, 000 in 2014 to 1, 100, 000 customers in 2021.Mr Mundende said that Zesco was meeting the demand of the country as it generated 2, 657 megawatts while the country’s demand was 2, 410 megawatts.“We have […]
