By NATION REPORTERPATRICK Banda, the PF Lusangazi council chairperson candidate who was recently arrested for alleged impersonation, has scooped the seat.Mr Banda polled 2386 votes against his closest contender, Fred Banda of the UPND, who got 1327 votes.The PF candidate was accused of having used a Grade Twelve School Certificate which did not belong to him to file in nominations as Council Chairperson for Lusangazi District.Mr Banda, 35, of Petauke’s Showgrounds had been charged for impersonation contrary to Section 380 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) however later clarified that they never issued any complaint against the PF candidate as they had earlier informed UPND that such matters were provided for in the laws which they chose not to observe.Such matters of suspected forged documents, the ECZ stated, were dealt with under the law and not in the manner police had acted.The Commission thus dispelled allegations that […]
