ZAMRA DOES NOT NEED PERMISSION TO DESTROY MEDICINES.By Kalunga MwapeThe Zambia Medicines and Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has clarified that it does not need to get any clearance from anyone before it can destroy any unauthorised drug or vaccine under its care.Recently ZAMRA destroyed 10,000 doses of unauthorized COVID-19 vaccine under the brand name Hayat-Vax which was imported into the country by Chrismar Earthmoving equipment.Following, the destruction of the 10, 000 vaccines, ZAMRA had come under fire as some stakeholders had questioned why the medicines regulatory body did not involve other bodies such as Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) to ensure that the right procedure was followed before destruction of the said vaccine.But in response to the concerns, ZAMRA Public Relations Manager Christabel Illiamupu has disclosed that the authority has the right to act in manner it did because it was authorized and that the institution had its own incinerator.Meanwhile Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) public […]
